Entries are now being accepted for this year’s competton.

The competition is open to any student who plays an orchestral instrument - including the harp, piano, classical guitar, recorder, saxophone, any brass band instrument and percussion.

Applicants must be 18 years of age or younger on the date of the competition; October 31st 2026. There is no lower age limit.

The entrant must live or study in the United Kingdom.

Candidates should submit an entry form with a recording of two contrasting pieces of no more than 10 minutes total duraton. The music need not be the repertoire the candidate may choose to play in later stages of the competton.

The recording may be submitted in the format of a video. The closing day for entries is SUNDAY OCTOBER 4th 2026.

A copy of your Grade 8 Certificate OR a letter of endorsement from your teacher.

These must be received no later than SUNDAY 4th October 2026

If you are selected to participate in the live Semi-final (and Final) round on SATURDAY OCTOBER 31st 2026 you will be asked to select your repertoire. For the semi-final you may choose TWO contrasting pieces of no longer than 12 minute’s duration. These pieces can differ from the pieces you submitted for the first “recordings” round.

If you are chosen to perform in the Final you are obliged to repeat your Semi-final programme with the addition of a piece, or pieces, to bring the total time (with breaks) up to a maximum 18 minutes duration.

There will be a Steinway Model D Grand Piano at the venue. For competitors who are unable to bring their own accompanist, an official accompanist is available for rehearsal and performance in the morning, afternoon and for the evening final. If you wish to avail yourself of this service there will be a nominal charge of £50.
